Helping Your Patients Be Folic Strong
What Does the Data in Wisconsin Show?
The Pregnancy Risk and Monitoring System (PRAMS) data from 2012 demonstrate that half (49.8%) of all mothers in Wisconsin did not take folic acid prior to pregnancy. Furthermore, disparities become apparent when pre-pregnancy supplement use is examined in terms of race/ethnicity, age, and socioeconomic status. Importantly, between 2009-20011, only an average of 76.4% of women surveyed had been advised about supplement use at their postpartum appointment.
